Structural Firefighting

The Owls Head - Mt. View Fire Department has 9 certified New York State Structural Firefighters that train regularly.  The department maintains 3 fire trucks that are fully equipped to suppress structural fires of all types.  Firefighters spend a great deal of time training to rescue victims trapped in burring structures as well as interior fire attack and suppression.

Wild-land Firefighting 

The Owls Head - Mt. View Fire Department has a Wild-land firefighting team because the response district is so heavily wooded.  The Wild-land team has US Forest Service Wild-land firefighting protective clothing as well as a wide range of Wild-land firefighting equipment.  The department's Wild-land equipment includes chain saws, small portable fire pumps, small diameter forest service fire hoses, as well as a wide range of hand tools.  The fire department also maintains a very capable Brush Truck that is used extensively for Wild-land firefighting each year.

Vehicle Extrication    

The Owls Head - Mt. View Fire Department owns and maintains a full set of vehicle extrication gear.  This extrication gear includes the Jaws of Life as well a number of other power and hand tools.  This equipment is used extensively to remove injured victims from motor  vehicle accidents.

Search & Rescue/Wilderness Rescue

The Owls Head - Mt. View Fire Department is equipped and trained to participate in Search & Rescue operations.  Trained fire department members routinely assist New York State Forest Rangers in searching for lost persons in wilderness areas.  The fire department also has a number of members that have specialized wilderness rescue training.  These fire department members use specialized equipment to rescue persons injured in very remote locations.

Water - Ice Rescue

The Owls Head - Mt. View Fire Department has a number of members that are trained for Water and Ice Rescue.  The fire department uses a Zodiac Rescue Craft for Water rescue operations during the summer months and cold water immersions suits during the winter months.  The fire department conducts training annually in association with the New York State Forest Rangers and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control in both water and ice rescue operations.

 

Emergency Medical Services

The Owls Head - Mt. View Fire Department operates an Ambulance unit and has a number of members trained for Emergency Medical Services.  The fire department has a number of Certified First Responders, New York State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians.  The department also has members trained as Wilderness Emergency Medical Technicians and Winter Emergency Care Specialists.  The department's Ambulance unit is fully equipped for Basic Life Support services.  The fire department sends members to New York State Emergency Medical training annually and conducts a wide range of in house medical training.
